Weekly Reading 9.26.22

Up until Hurricane Ian, I was completely distracted by fall wardrobe shopping. Fall clothes get me every year. And though I can only dream of sweater weather right now, the cozy knits, tall boots and long dresses are all in my shopping cart. There are a ton of friends and family sales going so it’s a perfect time to treat yourself to some fall staples.

My style has changed tremendously in the last ten years….for several reasons. I am now a mom and three inch heels are not very practical. I went to school in Charleston, worked in North Carolina and now live in Florida. The style here is different - very feminine, not as structured. I still have a lot of my all-black, tailored work ensembles (which is definitely more my style!), but I’m incorporating more color and prettier dresses – this brand is one of my current obsessions.

Quote I am loving this week: I know this is a common quote, but this beautiful Maya Angelou saying came to the surface again this week and is a great reminder for me when I deal with difficult people at work and as I work through parenting challenges. “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”.

To be someone of influence, to be a great leader, to be a great parent and friend - we need to focus on how we make people feel - do they feel heard, appreciated and valued? 

How I am managing my stress: Eating! Just kidding, but not really. My nutrition really needs to get back on track. That is next week’s goal.

Product I am using daily: This amazing luxurious body lotion by Pure Fiji. Take me away to a tropical island immediately.

My favorite podcast I cannot say enough about this inspiring interview with Lydia Fenet! She is such an amazing individual with some great insight and I hope all of you get the chance to listen!

Book I am currently reading: Life has been so busy right now, but I have this one in my queue right now. The school for good mothers. And of course, I can never read enough non-fiction. Very excited about some releases coming out at the beginning of next year!

 What I am looking forward to this weekend: Well, we did have some soccer games and playdates lined up but Hurricane Ian has put everything up in the air. Sometimes hunkering down at home can be a blessing in disguise

On that note, every time I log onto social media, someone else has a skin care line! We need a post on what celebrity skin care products actually work….and which ones don’t. Stay tuned. I think Cindy Crawford was one of the first on the market, and hers appears to have long-lasting potential.

I continue to be reminded how important our mental health is. As we wrap up September which is National Suicide Prevention Month, please check in with yourself and others. Often we may have a hunch that someone is struggling, but we have no idea how to reach out. Just do it – send a text, show up with some coffee – some of the happiest-on-the-outside- people I know are having deep struggles right now.
