Favorites For The Week

How is everyone’s year going? It’s been a whirlwind at work - going to a new EMR, navigating new legislation and the ever changing drug shortages. Life has also been busy in general - trying to stay healthy and happy while managing a household. I’m going to start a new feature this year that focuses on my favorite things for the week. Some will be fun, some will be important things to know (keeping up with the healthcare profession) and some will just be recommendations that I love. Here you go!

Something to listen to:

Ed Cohen is a trailblazer in the pharmacy world and I loved listening to his story and the different ways he has impacted the healthcare world as well as where he thinks the future is headed. This episode of Healthcare and Higher is a wonderful perspective and I highly recommend.

Something to read:

I just finished the book, The Huntress (it was recommended to me by one of my followers on Instagram!) and could not put it down. In fact, it kept me up far past my bedtime for three nights straight. I definitely will be reading another book by Kate Quinn.

Something to read in healthcare:

Mark Cuban is starting an online drugstore. While I think this is a noble endeavor (they promise to lower the cost of oral chemotherapy agents), I wonder if his team understands all the nuances to pharmacy and their supply chain. There are so many facets, but if they have good relationships with pharmaceutical companies and can talk them down, then go for it!

Something for your skin:

All I can say is that winter skin is in full force right now. The air is drier and so is my skin. This is one of my favorite new body lotions - it’s a little pricey but the consistency is perfect and a little goes a long way. Don’t forget to apply right after a shower or bath for maximum absorption!

Something for your brain:

I’ve been cutting back on my coffee this year. I’ve also been eating better and allegedly having deeper sleep. Because of the nutrition and sleep changes, I find myself not needing that afternoon pick-me-up, but I do like to stir this Brain Dust in some tea each afternoon for a little boost. It has Rhodiola, Astralagus and Maca - good for a alertness, concentration and a little extra energy! Sidenote: I have always loved this brand and you can use PHARMACISTSGUIDE15 for an extra discount.

Something to do:

It’s been harder to get in outdoor workouts this week because of the weather (I am becoming very cold intolerant after my move further South!). Barre3 and Peloton app workouts have been my go-to’s since you can do anything from 10 minutes to 1 hour. Don’t forget to get your movement in this month - it will do wonders for your mental and physical health. I’d love to hear your recommendations and how you are prioritizing fitness - email me!
